The Location
Bontang Coal Mine is
located in East Kalimantan, Indonesia. The mine supplies up to 3.8 million tons
of steam-quality coal annually to power generation and industrial users in the
Pacific Rim markets.
The Challenge
The client wished to
monitor truck access to restricted areas. As most of the trucks entering the
premises originate from third parties, a system of pre-registration of vehicles
was required. Previously, a manual system was in place with the driver registering
with security at the entrance. This resulted in long queues of trucks during peak
hours.
The Solution
Nedap AVI’s TRANSIT system
with boosters was chosen for two reasons. Firstly, it enabled driver based
identification. With the booster, the correct driver and truck could be
registered in the access control system before arriving on the premises, thus
negating the extra step of having to register with security at the port.
Secondly, and most importantly, even during peak hours and from a distance of
10m, the drivers and trucks could be granted access without delay.
