Frequently Asked Questions

I would like to use different tags with one reader, is this possible?

Yes you can chose different tags for different vehicle groups. All tags can be used in combination with the same TRANSIT Standard reader.

How can I determine the reading range?

The reader is featured with a built-in beeper that will give a signal as soon as a tag with valid customer code is in the identification area of the reader. This beeper can be used to adjust reading range during installation.

Can the tag be permanently mounted onto the vehicle?

The Heavy Duty Tag can permanently be attached to a vehicle. Windshield mounted tags can also be mounted by means of bi-adhesive tape. However an alternative solution to this issue is to use a driver based ID tag, where the employee badge can be removed after use.

I hold a tag in front of the reader but get no data.

Nedap is using client code for extra security. This means that each tag and each reader are programmed with a unique client specific code. Only when the two codes match a valid ID number will be transmitted. It might be that the customer code programmed in the tag and the reader does not match and therefore no data is sent. Ensure that you have loaded the right customer code into the TRANSIT reader.

I position the tag in front of the reader.

Please ensure that the tag is positioned correctly in front of the reader. The system needs line of sight between the reader and the tag. Tags for windshield mounting, should be positioned with the suction pads facing the reader. The Heavy Duty Tag shall be positioned with the laser engraved side facing the reader.

My tag is positioned behind the windshield but does not work when approaching the TRANSIT? When I hold it out of the window it works.

Probably your vehicle is equipped with a metalized windshield. These windshield are equipped with a metal coating that will block the RF signal. Normally these vehicles have a metal free zone located behind the rear view mirror where the tag can be positioned. Contact for your car dealer for more information where this zone is located. If there is no metal free zone, we would advice mounting onto the vehicle (eg. Behind the bumper or grill).

My client is using a building access card that I would like to use in combination with the Booster, is this possible?

Several card technologies (HID prox, Legic, Mifare, EM and Nedap) are supported. In order to determine exactly if you card can be used with the Booster, please contact one of our account managers to analyze the card you are using.

The TRANSIT reader does not have the full reading range?

It could be possible that the box with tags is positioned within the reading range of the TRANSIT and therefore it does not detect the tag further away. Put the beeper in the reader ON and move all tags out of the reading range of the TRANSIT.

I have several TRANSIT readers installed close to each other, they seem to have poor reading range.

Ensure that the TRANSITs located close to each other are set on different frequencies to avoid interference.

The TRANSIT has too much reading range, how can I adjust this?

The installed SUB board will enable you to adjust the reading range of the TRANSIT and to tailor reading distance to your specific application.

Does the TRANSIT reader support multiple read?

The TRANSIT system will identify the tag with the strongest signal, so the one closest to the reader. The system does not support multiple read.
